The Partner
Manly Clark is a fourth-generation principal at the Sampson Bladen Oil Company, which is a family-owned business founded in 1936 and headquartered in Selma, North Carolina. The company owns and operates a variety of petroleum industry businesses, including convenience stores, dealer services, fuel services, lubricant distribution, transportation, and more.
Clark says that Bitcoin Depot was the first crypto ATM company to approach him about doing business. “My company was attending the NACS event when we were approached by them. That’s when we decided to pursue a partnership with Bitcoin Depot, and our business has grown ever since. There have been many other crypto ATM companies who tried to do business with us shortly after the show, but we decided to begin and grow our partnership with Bitcoin Depot.”
Prior to partnering with Bitcoin Depot, Clark says he didn't know much about crypto. After the partnership began, he became more knowledgeable and thought it could be a major benefit to add to his company’s businesses. “We knew it was up and coming and the Bitcoin Depot proposal was a no-brainer.”
The Approach
Clark was amazed at how simple the machine installation process was at each of their stores. “The Bitcoin Depot installer said they hit a record of installing 20 machines in one day at our convenience stores and we honestly thought we would only see about 2 machines a day installed.”
“We also didn't think the machines would fit into some of our smaller locations but they all fit perfectly.”
Clark was impressed that the machines were also wireless and did not need to sync with their existing wireless Internet network, which was a major point of relief for him.
The Experience
“When we first got the machines, a lot of store owners were curious and asked questions about them,” Clark said. They started to see success from the ATMs in just a couple of months. Even through the pandemic, Clark says Sampson Bladen managed to keep their doors open and noticed continued utilization of the ATM machines.
Clark also mentioned that Julie Phillips, Bitcoin Depot’s Account Manager and point of contact for the oil company, was a particularly positive aspect of the partnership. “Julie sends us a monthly report that details the machines’ transactions at each store so we can measure the success,” he said. “Even our CFO is happy with the ongoing relationship and experience. Plus, Bitcoin Depot always pays us on time as promised.” Clark further explains the experience and relationship as one that will be long lasting for many years to come.
The Result
Since partnering with Bitcoin Depot, Sampson Bladen has noticed new customers shopping at their stores. “We have a lot of people that come in and use the machines and we are getting a lot of repeat customers that may not have come in without the machines in the store,” Clark said.
Sampson Bladen’s main focus is growth for their business in the future. Clark went on to add that “We are really trying to grow and build more stores and add more Bitcoin Depot ATM machines as we add more locations.”
Clark believes that the crypto ATM company is going in the right direction and has a bright future ahead in the ATM industry. “We love the relationship with Bitcoin Depot and we are looking forward to continuing this partnership.”
